A Message from the Principal's Office

Ms. Nicolo & Ms. Strouse

Happy 2026 WE families!

This month WE is working hard to demonstrate acceptance and tolerance. At Monday Meeting some of our students expressed what makes them unique and special. WE takes pride in celebrating and accepting all of our students' unique traits and the unique ways that they contribute to our school community. As we kick off the new year, we have also been working on building a growth mindset and developing grit by reminding students that our ability grows with our effort. Have some fun chatting with your children about all of the different ways they can build a growth mindset at school and at home.

Thank you for all that you do to support the home school connection!

Together we can accomplish great things!

The Word from Third

Happy New Year to all of our Third Grade Families!

It has been wonderful welcoming our third grade friends back to school after the long holiday break. All of our students returned rested and ready to learn and are already back to working hard!

ELA
Students are continuing to enjoy our book study on The War With Grandpa. They have been doing an excellent job being reading detectives as they analyze information about the two main characters (Peter and Grandpa) and compare their traits and beliefs about the “war.”

MATH
We are in the process of wrapping up our third unit, which has focused on place value, addition, and subtraction.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
We recently completed our Weather and Climate Science unit, so have transitioned back into Social Studies, with a focus on learning about culture.

Our days are busy in third grade, but we have a lot of fun and engaging learning taking place!

Reminder:
Part of your child’s homework is to read for at least 20 min. each night and to complete their weekly Reading Log. We appreciate your support of this important assignment!

Fourth Grade News

Fourth graders are currently enjoying the novel The Castle in the Attic as part of our reading series. This imaginative story follows William, a young boy who is magically shrunk and transported into a medieval world hidden inside a toy castle, where he must face challenges, solve problems, and show courage as he searches for a way home. As we read, students are practicing key comprehension skills such as identifying character traits, analyzing plot events, and making predictions. In addition to our whole-class novel, students will also be participating in book club groups, where they will read additional adventure stories that feature main characters embarking on exciting journeys. These book club discussions help students deepen their understanding of adventure themes while building collaboration and critical thinking skills.

Wayne Community News

Eagle Star Housing Safe Haven

Hello, My name is Elizabeth Shaw and my Senior Project is on the care of veterans. This has always been really important to me because my father was in the Marines. I believe that all veterans deserve help and care. Eagle Star Housing Safe Haven is an amazing example of something we can do to help our veterans. They are a non profit organization that gives support to veterans and a safe place to live while they regain their independence and self sufficiency since 2012. They make sure veterans have a safe place to stay while maintaining a long term goal of living on their own. Eagle Star Housing Safe Haven is more of a rehabilitation center to help veterans get back on their feet without just leaving them homeless. Much of the help they receive is through donations. As part of my senior project, I would love for our community to help me make a meaningful impact by donating to this organization. Anything you have, even something as simple as non-perishable food items, will help them. Any help is appreciated immensely. Donation boxes will be located in all four Wayne Central school buildings for your convenience. Updates from the Art Room

Mrs. Conrow

Dear Wayne Elementary Artists and Families,
Happy 2026! I have started the new year with cool 3D projects for our WE artists. Third graders are having a blast learning about metal embossing with their Gratitude Medal project. Students are using aluminum to create a medal that celebrates all that they are grateful for. They can choose to make their medal into jewelry or an ornament. Look for pictures on Artsonia this week!
Our 4th graders are completing the Gratitude Accordion books we started before break. We are learning different paper craft techniques to illustrate our ideas. This week, we will continue our exploration of VALUE as we create tints and shades of paint for gorgeous Bird on a Branch paintings. Using photos as reference, students are challenged to draw a bird and then to paint it with a variety of tints and shades. This is always a favorite project for students. I can’t wait to see the finished work!
Fourth grade Art Enrichment students continue to work on sewing skills to create their own stuffed animals. We also have a small group of students working with Mrs. Johnson and I to make a mural celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal. All fourth grade students will eventually have the chance to add to the mural for a grade-wide project.
I wish you all a happy, healthy start to the New Year!
Artfully yours,
Mrs. Conrow
