Hello WE families,

We hope you are enjoying the longer days and warmer weather!

Thank you to all of the staff and parents who connected during parent/teacher conferences this month. The partnerships you form to support our kids are appreciated!

It has been a great month at WE as we celebrated Read Across America week and recognized Black History Month.

Students must bring their device (Chromebook) to school fully charged on Monday, April 20th and Monday, May 4th. Devices will stay at school on the evenings of April 2oth and May 4th to ensure that everyone is prepared for tests the following mornings.

More information NYS Tests can be found below:

New York State testing will take place in April and May (ELA & Math). Students will take their exams on their Chromebooks rather than paper. We practiced using the computer based testing platform during our simulation in February, and additional opportunities for practice are embedded in the weeks and months leading up to our tests. Any testing accommodations listed for your child will be appropriately administered. The CBT platform includes built-in accessibility features, and we will ensure that all student needs are addressed.

To learn more about CBT, please visit the NYS Education Department website. To see sample CBT questions, you may explore the NYS Question Sampler website.

Thank you, and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

The Word from Third

Clipart Kid Image
The month of March has flown by so quickly! Here is what has been keeping your child busy in third grade:

ELA
We recently finished reading the biography of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which included thoughtful and engaging discussions about the impact Martin's life had on others and on the world we live in today. We will be starting a new Read Aloud book after our Spring Break.

MATH
We are currently working on our fraction unit and students have really been enjoying using Frax to help deep their understanding of the different fraction skills and concepts.

SCIENCE
Students are continuing to use their close observation and journaling skills as we dive deeper into our unit titled “Where Are The Wolves?” They were very excited to be able to examine real fossils and then have an opportunity to make their own "fossil" using shells, clay, and plaster. It was so much fun!

Reminder:
Part of your child’s homework is to read for at least 20 -30 min. each night, as well as completing their Frax math sessions as assigned, Thank you for this important home support!

Fourth Grade News

Memorial Art Gallery (MAG)

Our fourth grade students recently enjoyed an exciting and enriching field trip to the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) in Rochester. This memorable experience gave students the opportunity to explore art from around the world while building their observation and critical thinking skills.

A visit to the Memorial Art Gallery is truly a journey through more than 5,000 years of art history. From ancient artifacts to modern works, the museum offers a wide-ranging look at artistic expression across time and cultures.

During the trip, students:
  • Viewed masks, paintings, and statues representing cultures from major world regions
  • Learned about the history of Rochester and the Memorial Art Gallery through artwork
  • Practiced “reading” art by identifying clues such as setting, characters, and action
  • Used critical thinking skills to interpret the stories behind different works of art

This field trip provided students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences. By observing, discussing, and interpreting works of art, students deepened their understanding of culture, history, and storytelling through visual expression.

Library News

Miss Pressimone

April is Poetry Month so 3rd and 4th graders will be learning about different types of poems and will be listening to a variety of poems. 3rd graders are also finishing up the call number unit and will be independent library users at the end of it! I am so proud of how hard they worked on this unit and I love seeing how proud of themselves they are when they find a book on the shelf without any help.

April is…
  • School Library Month – Read a book with your child from and ask them what they did during library class.
  • School Librarian Day (April 4) – Thank a school librarian!
  • National Poetry Month – Read some poems or make up your own!
  • National Humor Month – Tell a joke or riddle to someone. Read a funny book.
  • Keep America Beautiful Month – Help clean up what was left under the snow. Plant some flowers.
  • Earth Day (April 22) – Don’t forget to recycle, pick up garbage, & treat our planet nice!

Save the Date – May 11 – May 15
Buy 1, Get 1 Free Scholastic Book Fair!
The Buy 1, Get 1 Free Scholastic Book Fair will be in the library May 11 – May 15.   More information will be in the letter that comes home the week before the Book Fair.
The class schedule will also be in that letter.

Family Night for Last Name A-L will be Wednesday, May 13 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
Family Night for Last Name M-Z will be Thursday, May 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
**Of course you can come on either night regardless of your last name, but we’re just trying to limit the number of people in the room at one time due to the space. I also found that having the Book Fair open for 2 nights worked well for families that might have had a prior
commitment on the one night.

Library Club
Session 3 of Library Club called “Games in the Library” started in February. Students are having fun learning some new games while playing some they already knew. Session 3 runs until April 7. Session 4 is a repeat of Session 3 and begins April 14.

Spring Cleaning for Library Books
There are several overdue library books. Please help your child look for any they have misplaced and help them keep their books in a safe place at home so they can remember to return them on time.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you need reading suggestions for your child or if you have any questions or comments about anything related to the library.
